What can you use hemp flour for?
Obtained from ground and defatted hemp seeds, hemp flour is an incredibly healthy, fantastically versatile and surprisingly inexpensive ingredient worth exploring and permanently incorporating into your kitchen. You can use it for absolutely everything. From breads to cakes, from veggie burgers to meatless meatballs or fiber-rich smoothies. Hemp flour can also be used as a gluten-free additive to thicken sauces and acts as an excellent low-carbohydrate alternative to popular white flour.
What are the nutritional values and benefits of hemp flour?
Did you know that one tablespoon of hemp flour provides about 60% of the daily fiber requirement Hemp flour is a treasure trove of unsaturated fatty acids (primarily alpha-linolenic acid of the omega-3 group and gamma-linolenic acid of the omega-6 group). It is rich in magnesium and protein, and is high in vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc. On top of that, it is gluten-free, low in carbohydrates and completely cholesterol-free, contains no saturated fat and is low in sodium.
How to make a healthy pizza?
Adding hemp to a simple gluten-free pizza mix is a great way to de-emphasize "junk food". In this edition, pizza can even be called a healthy, complete meal with extra protein, healthy fats, fatty acids and a cocktail of vitamins and minerals.
Hemp flour pizza recipe:
Ingredients:
dough: 2 pizza bottoms
1/2 cup gluten-free pizza mix
1/2 cup water
1 Tbsp hemp oil (canola oil also Ok.)
2 tablespoons of white vinegar
1/2 cup hemp flour
2 tablespoons of crushed ¨hulled hemp seeds,
1 tsp fresh yeast
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
On top of the pizza:
It's already your choice. It can be tomato sauce (passata), zucchini, peppers, red onions and fresh arugula. A sprinkling of crushed hemp seeds and a little hemp oil will work well. However, it does not have to be a vegan version. If you feel like it, you can add pepperoni, sausage and lots of mozzarella. It will still be gluten-free pizza.
How to do it?
Preheat the oven to 230°
Put dry pizza mix, hemp flour and crushed hemp seeds and spices into a blender
Add fresh yeast and start mixing on slow speed
Add water, oil, vinegar to the dry mixture and increase the speed of the blades.
Mix thoroughly until the dough is uniform
Set aside for 30 minutes for the dough to form
Lightly spray a cake pan, or a special pizza pan, and start flattening half of the dough on it ( enough for 2 pizza tops)
Bake at 230° for 8-10 minutes.
Add your toppings and bake for an additional few minutes, usually 4-5 minutes is enough.
